But Redknapp thinks Villa are more likely to move for their former player after speaking to Terry at a London charity event.

He told : "I was at a function last night and John Terry was there and I had a feeling he was right in the frame for the Villa job.

"He's a runner, that's for sure."

Chelsea legend Terry, 37, retired from football this week, having spent his final season at Villa Park.

Villa sacked Steve Bruce

, with the club 15th in the Championship.

Bruce guided the club to a 13th-place finish and play-off runners-up in his two seasons in charge.

Redknapp says former Liverpool manager Rodgers would relish the promotion challenge - should Celtic let him go.

He said: "He's done it all, won it all in Scotland.

"I'm sure he'd love to come back now.

"I know they're not Premier League but Villa are a club that have certainly got potential to get back into the Premier League.

"I'm sure he'd love the opportunity to come back and manage in England again."
