But the club have denied these reports and they are not ready to dismiss the Portuguese manager.

United labelled the claims as 'nonsense' this morning and said that their manager is not under immediate threat.

According to the , Mourinho will be given time to turn around the club's fortunes despite the club enduring the worst start to a seeson in 29 years.

United last went five games at Old Trafford without winning in 1989-90 but will repeat the feat tonight if they fail to get three points against Rafael Benitez's side.

And Mourinho knows a win is an absolute must with the club in touch with Zinedine Zidane about potentially replacing the current manager.

Former Red Devils defender Gary Neville last night blasted the club for "playing Football Manager" and being "rotten to the core".

In his rather brief press conference yesterday, Mourinho confirmed he is doing everything he can but it is just not working for him at the minute.

Benitez himself is struggling but a first victory of the season for the Magpies could spell the end for his long-term rival.
