Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho claims some of his stars ‘do not care’ about horror run

JOSE MOURINHO says some players at Manchester United do not care enough about their current plight.

United turned in an awful display in a 3-1 defeat at West Ham on Saturday leaving them tenth in the table and nine points off top after only seven games.

And Mourinho said: “I think some care more than others.”

He also claimed that not everyone looks as downtrodden as they should.

He said: “Every player is different, no player is the same, I see different actions but what you see is not really inside.

"I see upset people, some people that don't look like they lost a game, I see ‘so so’ but in the little two sessions of training we had everything normal, desire to work and play.

“Sometimes what it looks is exactly the opposite, you can be laughing and be the saddest person in the world and you can be a sad face and inside of you, you are very happy.”

But the under-pressure Red Devils boss clearly cannot accept that players are under performing to get him out of as job.

He said: “After 20 years of football, I am still the kid that I was 20 years ago and I am still naive but I still don't believe that a player is not honest.

"And I told him ‘ask these people with great reputations if any time in their career they went to a game not to give the maximum, not to help the club not to make the fans happy not to try his best, ask them.

“If somebody tells them ‘I was a football player and I didn't give my best’ then I change my opinion, until somebody who was a big professional player says I was a dishonest player I will always believe the players.

“They do it, they don't do it that's a diff story but I repeat I am naive or I still believe the player is an honest man.”

They certainly didn’t look like they were playing for the manager however, but asked today if he felt his job was in jeopardy he replied: “No, I don't think.”

But after the club’s worst start to a league season since 1989 it is certainly under threat.

Mourinho said it was a collective problem but that he at least is doing everything he can to turn things around.

He said: “It is a collective thing, the reason why we don't win is responsibility of everybody.

“The performance on the pitch in my opinion is the consequence of many factors.

“Luke Shaw for example said something I agree with but I not totally because I am part of it, he said we players are on the pitch we have to perform, we have to give more, I like that perspective but I don't agree totally.

“It is all of us, everybody in the club has a role to play, the kit man, the nutritionist, I have, everyone has a role to play and when we lose it is the responsibility of everyone.

“What I can do to improve things I do and I will improve the things that depend on me and my work.”

At least they got off to a good start in their Champions League Group with a 3-0 win over Young Boys of Berne.

The prospect of the Valencia game certainly seems to excite Mourinho.

He said: “Champions League week is always a good week even if you expect a difficult match, a difficult opponent, it is a big week.

“Everybody wants to play Champions League, not everybody can do it, so we are here and have a chance to play a big match.”
