Poland handed stadium closure over racist chants during Nations League match against Italy
The Polish Football Association have been hit with a fine and their next host game will have an area in the stadium where fans aren't allowed to sit to make way for a Uefa banner
POLAND are being punished for their supporters' behaviour during their clash with Italy and will see part of their stadium cordoned off in their next game as a result.
The national side faced Italy earlier this month and fans allegedly chanted racist songs and set off flares which forced Uefa taken action.
Robert Lewandowski and co drew 1-1 with the Italian side, but it was the chants at Bologna’s Stadio Renato Dall’Ara that caught the attention of European football's governing body.
The Polish Football Association are being hit with a £1,800 (€2,000) fine and will lose 1,000 seats in their next home game to make way for a banner.
Uefa's slogan #equalgame will feature on a banner that will sit on the empty seats, to promote diversity and inclusion in football.
According to , Uefa ethics committee ordered "the partial closure of the Polish Football Federation Stadium during the next Uefa competition match in which PZPN (Polish Football Association) would be the host association."
Poland face Portugal in a Uefa Nations League fixture in October, one month on from the fan incident.
The Uefa website states that 'Everyone should be able to enjoy football. No matter who you are, where you're from or how you play. That's Equal Game.'
