ARSENE WENGER has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is ready for a return to a high-profile job - after lining up Fenerbahce director of football Damien Comolli to go with him.

Wenger has been taking a break since leaving Arsenal at the end of last season, but has been assembling his backroom staff behind the scenes in preparation for his next management role.

Comolli goes back a long way with Wenger - he worked with him at Monaco and also at Arsenal - before moving on to sporting director roles at Tottenham and Liverpool.

Wenger, who has been linked with a number of prestigious positions since leaving Arsenal, wants Comolli by his side in his next role.

LIGHTEN UP

THE light show designed to cheer up punters at West Ham at half-time has to be seen to be believed.

Hapless members of Hammers staff roll out a bit of MDF with a few flashing bulbs on it for some poor punter to try to chase the lights in the worst 30 second piece of “entertainment” imaginable.

For those who have have had the misfortune of seeing it, West Ham are fumbling around in the dark trying to come up with something innovative and imaginative.

After this, it is time to turn the lights out.

FRANKLY EXCITING

FRANK LAMPARD’S first meeting as a manager with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford on Tuesday is a fascinating fixture.

Lampard, taking his first steps in management with Derby, was miffed when the Special One eased him out of Stamford Bridge before he could land another Premier League title.

Mourinho once hailed Lampard as the best midfielder in the world, but relations soured during his second spell in charge at Chelsea.

At Old Trafford tomorrow their relationship will be put to the test in the Carabao Cup.

SARRI ABOUT THAT

Maurizio Sarri says Liverpool are a ’step forward’ from Chelsea ahead of midweek Carabao Cup clash

GOT to love it when managers start playing for time when they unexpectedly slip up.

Maurizio Sarri claimed Chelsea were a year away from Liverpool’s level after their pedestrian 0-0 draw at West Ham left them two points off Jurgen Klopp’s leaders.

It was only a week ago that Sarri was hailing Eden Hazard as the best in the world after he scored a hat-trick against Cardiff at the Bridge.

One week on, after a 0-0 with West Ham, it has become a work in progress.
