LIVERPOOL may have just jumped into pole position in the battle for Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon.

The Reds are yet to join Tottenham and Manchester United in the hunt for the talented 18-year-old winger.

However, it would seem Jurgen Klopp's men would be Sessegnon's No1 choice... as he has revealed he was a Liverpool fan in his youth.

The England hopeful even admitted to having a Steven Gerrard jersey as a youngster and even picked up some tips from the man himself at a training session at St George's Park.

Speaking to , Sessegnon was asked who he supported as as a kid, to which he replied: "Liverpool."

When asked if he had a Reds top, he added: "I did, yeah. Gerrard [on the back].

Sessegnon was then asked if he has ever met his idol to which he replied: "I have met him, yeah.

"I was [starstruck]. I met him at St George's Park and he was giving me tips for my career."

Fulham did well to cling onto Sessegnon during the summer window... with the young star in high demand.

Many had tipped the Fulham ace for a spot in Gareth Southgate's England World Cup squad too, but he ultimately failed to make the cut.
