Manchester United squad cost MORE than PSG’s to assemble… but Man City stars are the Champions League’s priciest
Jose Mourinho is adamant his side shouldn't be competing for European glory, but their squad value tells a different story

MANCHESTER UNITED have the second costliest squad in this season's Champions League... so why does Jose Mourinho believe they shouldn't be competing?
Under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Old Trafford squad were urged to believe they could win any tournament they entered.
But even with a squad worth an eye-watering £655million, Mourinho has played down his side's chances in Europe's elite competition.
That staggering tally is second only to noisy neighbours Manchester City - at a simply ludicrous £786m, according to data from .
Yet United have spent more assembling their squad than the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Third-placed PSG - who take on Liverpool tonight in a battle of the star strikers -spent around £35m LESS than United, despite the near-£200m buys of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Barcelona (£538m) spent over £100m less than the Old Trafford giants, while Liverpool shelled out around £140m under United's total at £513m in fifth.
But it is Pep Guardiola's City streets ahead in the spending stakes - spending 200 TIMES more than Viktoria Plzen, bottom of the 32 Champions League teams in terms of spending.
Thanks in no small part to that, England sit miles ahead of all other Champions League nations in transfer fees shelled out.
The average Premier League team has spent £562m on their squad, ahead of Spain (£361m), France (£321m), Italy (£272m) and Germany (£180m).
