And the former England captain told Zlatan his goals tally means he should be a little less shy!

Beckham said: "Zlatan, I want to say congratulations, 500 goals, what a career, what a player, what an achievement.

"It was a pleasure to play with you, it was a pleasure to play against you, it's a pleasure to be your friend.

"Five-hundred goals - that makes you really, really old! But on a serious note congratulations.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's 500-goal career summed up in stylish compilation

"Mate one thing you need to work on is you're a little bit shy so work on it, you'll get better but congratulations mate, incredible."

And Ibrahimovic responded in typically brilliant fashion.

He replied on Twitter: "My friend! Thank you very much. I agree with you, I'm old.

"Will work on my shy side, I definitely need to improve on that."

Zlatan scored an outrageous goal to reach the milestone, acrobatically turning the ball home in trademark fashion.

LA Galaxy went on to lose 5-3 to Toronto but the match will be remembered for Ibra's brilliance as he spun 180 degrees and flicked in with the outside of his boot via the post.

The cocksure Swede then tweeted an image of himself as Norse god Thor before Becks joined in the wave of congratulatory messages for Zlatan.

Both Beckham and Ibrahimovic played for AC Milan, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and LA Galaxy in their respective careers and were team-mates at PSG before the Englishman retired in 2013.

The pair have a phenomenal 34 major trophies between them including 17 league titles.

The only other two active players with 500 goals are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Not bad company!
