Ramsey, 27, played 180 minutes for Wales over the international break including scoring against Ireland in the 4-1 win.

And Emery revealed that the contract rebel forced him into a change after telling the Spaniard he wanted to come off.

Speaking after the 2-1 victory, the gaffer revealed: "He played with (the Wales) national team too much and he asked to change.. it was not a big problem but he was tired. I think no problem."

Emery also told his players he is happy to see them angry after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang showed his frustration at being hooked off.

Alexander Lacazette embarrassed by Arsenal team-mates as he’s left hanging amid celebrations at Newcastle

He added: "It’s normal. I want the players when I change the team or when I decide them not to start them in the first XI to be angry and have ambition to play and help the team and stay on the pitch. For me it’s a normal situation.”

After a dire first half, goals from Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil lifted Arsenal into seventh.

But they heaped further misery on Rafa Benitez's side.

Newcastle are now third from bottom after picking up just a point in their opening five matches.
