Arsenal boss Unai Emery wants his players to be ‘angry’ after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s strop at Newcastle substitution
UNAI EMERY has encouraged his players to be angry after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's outburst.
The Gabon striker showed his discontent after being hooked off the field on 68 minutes in Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Newcastle.
Aubameyang struggled to make an impact in the game with question marks remaining whether he can forge a prolific partnership with Alexandre Lacazette.
And he cut a frustrated figure when he was replaced by Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the second period.
But Emery claimed his reaction was "normal" and he is happy to see his players show ambition.
Reported by the club's official website, he said: "It’s normal. I want the players when I change the team or when I decide them not to start them in the first XI to be angry and have ambition to play and help the team and stay on the pitch. For me it’s a normal situation.”
Emery also revealed that contract rebel Aaron Ramsey asked to be subbed in the second half.
He added: "He played with (the Wales) national team too much and he asked to change.. it was not a big problem but he was tired. I think no problem."
Arsenal were dreadful in the first-half but came out with fire in their bellies in the second period to pile more misery on struggling Toon.
Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil were on the scoresheet and Emery challenged the Germany playmaker to build on his first goal of the season.
