Furious sparkies hit out after they they were only brought in last month to sort out faults in the fire alarm systems
SPARKS are flying at Tottenham’s new stadium — after 300 electricians were sent home early.
They were recruited in August to tackle faults in the fire alarm systems.
Yet only days later, 36 of them were told they were not needed — and some returned home claiming they had barely made any money after travel expenses.
One said: “It was a fiasco from start to finish. It’s a shocking way to treat people.”
The source revealed the sparkies had been led to believe they would be kept on to the end of the year. Not so say lead contractors Mace.
A spokesman said: “The number peaked in July and has been dropping since as work on various sections of the stadium completes.”
But on-site sources say it was “extremely optimistic” to believe the stadium will be ready by the end of January.
It was only last month that SunSport revealed Spurs were urgently recruiting more electricians.
At that stage, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admitted he felt “sorry” for both chairman Daniel Levy and worried fans.
More controversy came last week when Spurs were given permission to 'host' their Carabao Cup tie against Watford at MK Dons on September 26.
Tottenham needed a new venue as their current temporary home, Wembley, is staging Anthony Joshua's fight with Alexander Povetkin four days earlier.
