The news comes less than two weeks since the national team captain was charged for drink driving in London.

Why is Hugo Lloris not playing for France?

Despite calls for Lloris to be stripped of the Spurs captaincy, he has only been left out due to a thigh injury.

The 31-year-old also missed his club's 2-1 defeat to Watford at the weekend, but he was named in the squad before it became apparent he wouldn't be available to play.

Manager Didier Deschamps has since called up Montpelier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte and Lloris has returned to London to recover his fitness ahead of a busy period for his club.

Alphonse Areola made his France debut against Germany, earning his second cap days later in the Uefa Nations League match with Holland.

When is France's next game?

France will play Holland on Sunday, September 9.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7.45pm.

It takes place at the 81,000-capacity Stade De France.

The reverse tie will be held on Friday, November 16 at the Stadion Feijenoord, Rotterdam.
