Bradford appoint ex-Livingston boss David Hopkin as new manager following Michael Collins sacking after six games

The 48-year-old, who played a season for the Bantams, becomes club's FOURTH boss in 2018

BRADFORD CITY have announced David Hopkin as the club's new head coach.

The former Crystal Palace and Leeds United midfielder, 48, has signed a two-year deal at Valley Parade.

The Bantams sacked Michael Collins late on Monday night with the club picking up just six points in their first six matches.

Hopkin now becomes Bradford's FOURTH manager of 2018.

Former Livingston boss Hopkin told the club website: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Bantams and cannot wait to get started.

"This is a huge opportunity for me. We have a talented squad and I am looking forward to working with the players and staff.

"The club is ambitious and so am I. Although my time as a player here was cut short by injury, I enjoyed my stay and took away some great memories.

"Our supporters are extremely passionate and I want to give them a team and performances they can be proud of."

Hopkin, who will make a decision on his backroom team in the near future, spent almost three years at Livingston.

There, Hopkin led his side to two successive promotions, from Scottish League One back to the Premiership.

However, he decided to leave the club in May at the end of his contract.

Chairman Edin Rahic added: "We are very pleased to welcome David to the club.

"David received a great deal of admiration for his success in Scotland, with Livingston.

"He is very passionate about our club and is excited to be in charge."

Hopkin played one season for Bradford City in 2000-01.

Collins, 32, was appointed to a three-year deal in June after working with the club's Under-18s - and was the youngest boss in the top four divisions at the time.

His dismissal means Stuart McCall, caretaker Greg Abbott, Simon Grayson and Collins - who was playing part-time for AFC Halifax last season - have all came and gone this year.

Bradford's decision came hours after David Ball joined on a season-long loan from Rotherham United.
