Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos matches Lionel Messi in amazing record… having now scored in 14 consecutive La Liga seasons
SERGIO RAMOS kick-started Real Madrid's comeback as they came from behind to beat Girona 4-1 on Sunday evening.
The Real Madrid star, 32, scored a 39th-minute penalty to equalise after the hosts had taken a surprise lead.
With the likes of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos on the pitch, it was something of a surprise to see Ramos selected to take the kick.
But as it turns out, he had a very valid reason for doing so... despite the serious nature of the game.
Going into the 2018-19 season, Ramos - incredibly for a defender - had managed to score a goal in each of his previous 13 La Liga seasons since making his debut.
Desperate to keep the streak alive, the Spaniard stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick to not only keep Los Blancos alive in the game, but his streak too.
Later in the game, Real were awarded another penalty - and, almost to prove a point - Ramos did not take it.
That honour instead went to Benzema, who found the back of the net in the first of his two strikes on the night - with Bale also on the score-sheet.
Amazingly, only one other player has managed to score in 14 straight La Liga campaigns... a certain Lionel Messi.
While Leo has scored 384 times in that run - since 2005-06 - Ramos has "only" 54... which is still mightily impressive given his position.
