Charlton fans throw hundreds of crisp packets on pitch at The Valley in bizarre protest at owners

Roland Duchatelet's cost-cutting measures at Charlton have angered Addicks fans

CHARLTON fans launched hundreds of crisp packets onto The Valley pitch in the latest protest against hated owner Roland Duchatelet.

Just 20 seconds into the Addicks' League One game against Fleetwood, the match had to be halted due to the spud-filled missiles.

The protest comes in response to a report in the  that revealed Duchatelet's recent cost-cutting measures.

A member of staff at League One Charlton had to ask permission of HR, the report said, to eat a packet of crisps at their desk following cutbacks on the working hours of cleaners.

The Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet (CARD) group had planned to protest anyway this week after the Belgian owner refused to pay bonuses promised to staff.

A statement from CARD said: "Duchatelet is destroying the club.

It wasn't the first time Charlton fans had made their feelings known by littering the pitch.

In October 2016, small plastic pigs were thrown onto the field at both ends of The Valley.

They also staged a mock "funeral" for the club before a game against Middlesbrough in March that year.
