Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney tells Paul Pogba to hit top form and deliver Premier League title
Former United captain wants France World Cup winner to step up and be Red Devils' main man
WAYNE ROONEY has told Paul Pogba: Step up and lead Manchester United to the Premier League title.
The former United captain wants the France World Cup winner to dominant more games and become the Red Devils' main man.
Roo said: “Paul is a fantastic player and he has to do it for himself I think.
“You hear a lot of people saying Jose Mourinho needs to get the best out of him, but for Paul he needs to do it for himself and prove he’s at that level to help Man United.
“If they’re going to win the title, he’ll be the main player in terms of them doing that, I’m sure.”
Pogba, 25, has had an inconsistent start to the new season, surprisingly admitting his attitude “wasn’t right” during Utd’s 3-2 defeat at Brighton last weekend.
There has been talk of tension between Pogba and boss Mourinho behind-the-scenes.
But Rooney, speaking last night on , says it is imperative Mourinho brings the best out of his star midfielder.
The DC United ace added: “Obviously, surrounding him is a lot of publicity.
“He’s in the public eye and I’m sure he knows how to deal with that, but he’s one of the best players.

“If Jose can get the best out of Paul this season, that will be a huge plus for Man United and a step in the right direction in winning the title.”
Several ex-United stars have voiced their concerns about United’s prospects this season, with some expecting Mourinho to be gone by Christmas.
Rooney, who joined the MLS side from Everton in June, has backed The Special One to challenge champions Man City and maybe end the title drought at Old Trafford.
The striker, 32, said: “Finishing second last season, although they didn’t win a trophy, I felt it was a good start for them to push for the title.
“And, you know Mourinho, he knows what he’s doing. He knows how to win titles.
"I’m sure with the quality of players, he’ll have a game plan to try and help them go that one step further and win the title.”
