Charlton boss Lee Bowyer charged by FA after clash with Peterborough manager Steve Evans
Bowyer accused Evans of 'bullying the fourth official' and scaring them into a decision during 1-0 defeat
CHARLTON caretaker boss Lee Bowyer has been charged by the FA for his "improper conduct on the field of play" during a fiery game against Peterborough.
The former Newcastle midfielder clashed with rival boss Steve Evans and launched a blistering rant at ref James Linington following a controversial penalty decision that went against his team.
Jason Cummings scored the 89th minute spot-kick and Peterborough went on to win the game 1-0.
During the contest Bowyer had a pop at the fourth official following a hefty challenge and he was carded as a result.
Evans then charged "10-15 metres" to the fourth official to have his say.
Bowyer pulled no punches in his post-match interview and accused Evans of "bullying the fourth official."
He said: "Their manager, because he's this big geezer that's standing on the side, he's bullying the fourth official.
"Constantly hammering the fourth official. I don't know if they're scared."
His rant didn't end there and he called for Linington to face a suspension from officiating.
Bowyer added: "He [Linington] is sitting in his room and thinks it’s acceptable to make a decision and then he’ll go home and sleep all right.
"But I know I won't and I know my players won't and I know most of our fans won’t. Is it acceptable? No.
“Am I probably going to get in trouble? Yeah. It is what it is. But should he get in trouble? Yeah. He shouldn't be refereeing. He shouldn't be able to ref the next game.
"He’s made a decision there and says the fella got pushed. The fella tried to dive to head the ball, there was no push, they were side by side.
“Is there contact? Of course there is. You've got two players running 100 miles an hour, one trying to defend and one trying to score, is there contact? Yes. But is it a penalty? No.”
A FA spokesman said: “Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has been charged with misconduct following the game against Peterborough United after it was alleged his behaviour on the field of play was deemed to be improper.
"He has until 6pm on Thursday, August 30, to respond.”
