JOHN TERRY volunteered to become Chelsea's new goalkeeper when he saw the club were breaking the world record to sign Kepa.
Blues legend Terry has watched on as his old club replaced Thibaut Courtois by splashing out £71.6million to bring in the Athletic Bilbao stopper.
The deal makes the 23-year-old the most expensive keeper in history, replacing new Liverpool star Alisson at the top of the list.
And it prompted Terry to jokingly make himself available to Maurizio Sarri as he contemplates the next step of his career.
The ex-Chelsea and England captain dug out an old picture of when he was forced to don the gloves during a match to post onto his Instagram page.
He wrote: "When you think you're getting the call... but they sign someone for £72m."
The picture was of the time he went between the posts during the 1-0 win over Reading in 2006 - a game which saw keepers Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini both suffer injuries.
Chelsea are set to unveil new signing Kepa at a press conference this afternoon, after he signed a seven-year contract to make the move to the Premier League.
The Blues were forced to make a dramatic move for the highly-rated Spanish international after Courtois forced their hand by pushing through a move to Real Madrid.
Chelsea had intended to keep faith with Courtois for the season, making him see out the remaining twelve months left on his contract with the club.
But when the Belgian made it clear to new boss Sarri in a phone call last week that he was desperate to leave and had no intention of signing a new deal, the club reluctantly decided to act.
Courtois will be announced as a Madrid player later today after the Blues accepted the £38m bid that was on the table from the European champions.
