Jose Mourinho wanted N’Golo Kante at Manchester United and made Chelsea star his top summer target
Agent of Axel Witsel has made sensational claim after his own client was reported to have snubbed Old Trafford move in order to join Borussia Dortmund
CHELSEA star N’Golo Kante was Manchester United’s top target this summer.
That’s according to the agent of Axel Witsel, who claims Jose Mourinho was hoping to raid his old side for the second year in a row.
The Special One returned to Stamford Bridge last summer to poach Nemanja Matic for £40million.
And it seems he fancied pairing the Serbian with Kante after they won the Premier League together under Antonio Conte.
Paul Stefani made the claims to Het Laatste Nieuws after his own client, Belgian midfield international Witsel, was reported to have turned down a move to United in favour of Borussia Dortmund.
Stefani said: “I know from a very good source that Mourinho said he wanted Witsel, but not in the first place.
“N’Golo Kante topped his list. Eventually, Axel said: ‘Do me a favour and finish it as quickly as possible because I really want to go to Dortmund’.”
Mourinho is believed to be deeply unhappy with United’s business this summer, with £60m midfielder Fred only joined by young defender Diogo Dalot and veteran goalie Lee Grant.
The Portuguese tactician wants to land a top-class centre-back before deadline day on Thursday.
But a move for Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng is off while Leicester City’s Harry Maguire is deemed too expensive.
