Stoke star Peter Crouch wanted by Burnley in £500,000 deal after Sean Dyche missed out on Jay Rodriguez
Dyche had a bid turned down for the West Brom star last week and has not been able to thrash out a deal for Troy Deeney
PETER CROUCH is back on Burnley’s radar in Sean Dyche’s search for a striker.
Dyche had a bid turned down for West Brom’s Jay Rodriguez last week and has not been able to thrash out a deal for Watford’s Troy Deeney.
Crouch has emerged as a serious option for the Clarets boss in a £500,000 deal before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
He started on the bench for Stoke at the weekend against Leeds and Gary Rowett insists the ex-England striker has an important role this season.
However, he also has time to bring in a replacement on loan if he decides to cash in.
Dyche wants a forward with top-flight experience to compete with Sam Vokes, Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood up front.
Crouch, who has a year left on his contract, turned 37 in January but was on Chelsea's list of targets in the previous window as they looked for a target-man.
Two goals in his final six games of the season was not enough to save Stoke from relegation.
Meanwhile, Burnley have been handed a nightmare Europa League play-off tie against Olympiakos or Luzern should they beat Istanbul Basaksehir.
The Clarets are competing in Europe for the first time in 51 years, and will play away from home first should they get past their Turkish opponents.
