According to Spanish news outlet , the left-back will now compete for a place in the starting XI.

It has been claimed that he is already above Theo Hernandez in the pecking order, and will be Marcelo's understudy in the squad.

The news will fuel talk of Hernandez, a former Atletico Madrid ace, joining Premier League newcomers Fulham on loan for the season.

Reguilon played the last 45 minutes against the Red Devils during the 2-1 defeat, before playing the full match against the Old Lady in a 3-1 win.

His performances drew praise from Lopetegui, who said: "He is taking advantage of the opportunity he has."

And after two loan spells at third division side UD Logrones, Reguilon is hopeful he can make the transition from youth star to first team regular.

He said: "I started in the youth team and I have put a lot of work in.

"To get to this position you see as being very difficult and it is what all kids want to do."
