Wayne Rooney shows off grisly black eye after horror clash of heads during DC United match
WAYNE ROONEY has shown off his grisly black eye following a horror clash of heads during DC United's victory over Colorado.
The former Everton forward, 32, broke his nose and required five stitches on his left eyebrow after colliding with Axel Sjoberg on Sunday.
Rooney wore a baseball cap to hide his face from view during his post-match press conference, but the shiner was still visible.
Yet despite the dangers, Roo has vowed to play on, saying: "It looks a bit worse with the black eye but it feels fine.
"There's not much swelling. I've had no problems sleeping. I'll play as normal.
"Of course, if I get a bang on it, it will be painful."
Rooney picked up the shiner in stoppage time of the 2-1 win but hasn't blamed Sjoberg.
The ex-Manchester United star added: "It was a complete accident. These things happen.
"It's part of football. I'm used to it. It will be fine. It's actually settled down quite quick."
Earlier in the game, Rooney had scored his first-ever MLS goal to give his side the lead - poking the ball past another ex-Prem star, Tim Howard.
