Tottenham starlet Reo Griffiths leaves by mutual consent as PSG, Real Madrid and Lyon circle
Griffiths is one of the hottest young strikers around and a host of European clubs are chasing his signature, but SunSports understands Spurs and the player have agreed to go their separate ways
TOTTENHAM wonderkid Reo Griffiths has left the club despite being tipped to be a future star.
The highly-rated striker hit 33 goals last season for the Under-18s and was earmarked as the next big thing to come from the club’s academy.
His brilliant goal haul included bagging four in Spurs’ 9-0 mauling of Arsenal Under-18s in April.
The forward has attracted huge interest from Europe’s elite and the Premier League side had offered the teenager his first professional contract to ward off any potential suitors.
However, Griffiths failed to agree terms with Spurs at the end of the season and the club took the unusual step of taking his scholarship deal into a third a year.
But after realising the striker would not be signing their standard professional contract, Spurs agreed to the player's request to quit his scholarship deal and continue his development elsewhere.
SunSport revealed last week Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are keen on Griffiths, who is regarded as one of the best young attackers in Europe.
German club RB Leipzig, whose sporting director is former Tottenham head of recruitment Paul Mitchell, have also been interested in signing the youngster.
Lyon have also expressed interest in the exciting hitman, who is expected to a make decision about his future this week.
The Londoner’s decision about the next step in his career will not be based on money, but being able to see a pathway into first-team football over the next 12 months.
SunSport understands both parties signed a document cancelling the player’s scholarship and Spurs will receive six years' training compensation under FIFA rules when Griffiths joins another club.
