BENJAMIN PAVARD’S wonder strike against Argentina has been crowned the World Cup’s Goal of the Tournament.

France’s latest star played a key role in Didier Deschamps’ Russian campaign this summer, helping his country win the tournament for the first time since 1998.

However, things just get better and better for Pavard, whose magnificent volley against Argentina in the last 16 was named the best goal of the World Cup.

Fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing when the right-back fired off a one-touch shot at goal from outside the box, sending a spinning ball crashing into the opposite top-left corner.

Pavard, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, tweeted his delight after discovering he had landed another World Cup treasure.

The ace, 21, wrote: “Proud, honoured and always a little hard to believe. Thank you for all your messages.”

At the time, Pavard provided some insight into the ferocious hit, explaining: “The ball bounced up as it came to me.

“I didn’t even think about it. I just tried to get over it and keep it down.

“I was trying to hit in the direction it came from, which is what the strikers always tell me. I didn’t think it over and when it went in I just felt so happy.”

Juan Quintero’s magnificent effort for Colombia against Japan was named runner-up in the goal awards, with Luke Modric’s strike against Argentina finishing third.
