Lucas Torreira confirms first Arsenal pre-season training date after post-World Cup holiday
Midfield ace was given extended break after World Cup adventure with Uruguay and will miss trip to Singapore
NEW Arsenal star Lucas Torreira has revealed he will link up with Unai Emery for pre-season training next week.
The midfield ace was signed from Sampdoria for £22million following Uruguay’s World Cup exit.
And after recharging his batteries on holiday, Torreira feels the time is right to return to London Colney for his first training session with teammates.
Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion claims the 22-year-old will make his maiden appearance at Arsenal’s base on July 30.
It means Torreira will miss the entirety of the trip to Singapore for International Champions Cup games against Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, he could feature in the clash with Chelsea at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on August 1.
And Torreira is sure to play some part in the final warm-up game against Lazio three days later in Stockholm’s Friends Arena.
The tenacious midfield general has already got Arsenal fans salivating after starring for Uruguay in Russia.
Torreira’s presence in midfield could free up the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka to make an impression in the final third.
While his work rate is also sure to benefit the likes of nomadic playmaker Mesut Ozil and Armenian wizard Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
