CALAMITY keeper Loris Karius gave Jurgen Klopp a timely reminder why he needed to splash out on a new goalkeeper.
The error-strewn German was let off after another howler just three minutes into Liverpool's clash with Dortmund at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Karius rushed off his line to make a clearance, but made a hash of it and passed straight to Dortmund's Maximilian Philipp.
Fortunately for the Reds stopper, Philipp dragged his effort wide with the net gaping and Karius breathed a sigh of relief.
Liverpool signed Brazilian Alisson in a world record £67m deal this week to avoid a repeat of Karius' Champions League final disaster against Real Madrid last season.
And Klopp plans to introduce his new goalkeeper against Napoli in Dublin on August 4 after the three-game US tour.
JOEL BLOW Liverpool dealt injury worry as Joel Matip is forced off inside 20 minutes
Klopp said: “He is desperate to play. He could have joined us here in America but it made absolutely no sense.”
"He had a long year and so I sent him on holiday again. There will still be two games to play and West Ham is only the first game of the season, not the last one.”
Liverpool's world-record defender Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring last night with a bullet header in the 25th minute from Andy Robertson's cross.

But Joel Matip hobbled off injured holding his thigh after playing a simple pass and was replaced by Joe Gomez in the 20th minute.
Christian Pulisic stole the show in the second half with two goals to win it for Dortmund.
The American teen prospect was one of the main attractions in North Carolina pegged back Liverpool with a penalty midway through the second half after being fouled by James Milner.
And he beat Karius again in the 89th minute from the edge of the box after rounding off a swift counter-attack with a clinical finish into the bottom corner.
Karius' misery was complete in injury time as he tamely palmed Pulisic's effort straight to Jacob Bruun Larsen, who made no mistake.
Liverpool face Manchester City in New Jersey on Wednesday before taking on Manchester United in Michigan next Saturday.
