Maurizio Sarri says he can bring the fun back to Chelsea in first interview since replacing Antonio Conte
Italian chief hoping to carry on his exciting Napoli mentality after taking over at Stamford Bridge last week
MAURIZIO SARRI has said he can be the man to finally bring the fun back to Chelsea, in his first interview since replacing Antonio Conte.
The Italian chief, 59, is hoping to carry on his exciting Napoli mentality after taking over at Stamford Bridge last week.
Ex-Serie A man Sarri is already being seen a beacon of hope amongst Blues supporters after the drudgery of 2017-18 under Conte.
During his first-ever Chelsea press conference, Sarri revealed: “I think with one or two adjustment we can try to play my football.
“First of all, I want to enjoy myself. The players have to enjoy themselves and the fans can enjoy the team.
“I am here for football. I am here for Chelsea. London is a wonderful city but I am here for Chelsea. It’s 100 per cent hard work, 90 per cent fun.
“It’s impossible in my job to promise something else but I surely would give all my possessions to win something with Chelsea.”
Sarri has also waxed lyrical about new signing Jorginho for his decision-making and technique after he followed him from Naples to London.
The ex-Napoli chief added: “Jorginho is not a physical player, he’s a technical player.
“But the most important quality is that he is very quick in the mind, so he has the ability to move the ball very quickly.”
Sarri is looking forward to testing himself amongst the managerial greats in England, too.
The Italian revealed: “Chelsea is one of the most important clubs in the most important championship in Europe.
“In the Premier League there are all the most important coaches in Europe, maybe in the world.
“So it will be for me very exciting to play against Guardiola, to play against Pochettino, to play against Mourinho, to play against Klopp and all the others.”
