His new agent Pini Zahavi had been busy testing the water with some of the world’s richest clubs but no deal was done.

Zahavi even told Bild when he was first appointed: “Robert feels that he needs a change and a new challenge in his career.”

But the frontman is now set to stay with the Bundesliga giants where he will aim to add another domestic title to his already glittering medal collection.

United made contact with the player's agent after it was revealed he wanted out of Munich this summer.

Real Madrid were Lewandowski's first-choice destination but they did not show enough interest, even though Cristiano Ronaldo looks on his way out.
