The Reds will need to break the British transfer record to sign Los Blancos' wonderkid

And now Liverpool are reported to have already made a formal bid to meet the 22-year-old's release clause, a fee that would smash the British transfer record, as reported by .

The Reds want Asensio to be their creative spark behind the front three of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Asensio is contracted until June 2023 and has a mind-boggling £615M release clause.

It would represent a massive statement, as Liverpool look to claim major silverware next season, after losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The Reds are also targeting a first league title since 1990, but would need to surpass the current British transfer record of £89m, which Manchester United splashed out to sign Paul Pogba.

Asensio would also become the third-most expensive player ever, after Brazil's Neymar and Paris Saint-Germain's proposed move for Kylian Mbappe.

His rise at Real has marked him as a future world-class player, having become known for his direct dribbling, vision and extraordinary goals.

The Spaniard - currently in Russia at the World Cup - was involved in 16 goals last season in all competitions, including scoring a sensational double against Valencia.
