The Uruguayan played his part in a 4-2 win over Vorskla Poltava in midweek and has now been rewarded with a Premier League berth.

Who is Lucas Torreira?

Torreira is a defensive midfielder signed from Sampdoria and an international star for Uruguay.

The 22-year-old began his career with Montevideo Wanderers before he joined Pescara's youth team.

After an impressive run of form, he completed a switch to Sampdoria for a reported fee of £1.32m at the start of the 2016-17 season.

He received his first call up to the Uruguay team for the China Cup in March 2018.

And his stock has risen further during World Cup 2018 as he marked Cristiano Ronaldo out of the game during a 2-1 win over Portugal.

Has Lucas Torreira started for Arsenal yet?

Torreira made his first start for the club in the Europa League against Ukrainian side Vorskla.

And that has now been followed up with his first Premier League start as he faces Everton.
