HARRY REDKNAPP insists England will WIN the World Cup this summer - if they go into the tournament without fear.

Former Tottenham boss Redknapp is convinced Gareth Southgate's young squad has the potential to pull off a major shock by lifting the trophy at the end of Russia 2018.

The 71-year-old says there is no stand-out side going into this year's tournament - leaving it wide open for England to make a huge impact.

But he believes the only way to glory is to going into the World Cup with a fearless approach and the belief that just getting out of the group stage is not enough.

Redknapp told TalkSport: “We’re going to win it, let’s go for it.

“Don’t start talking about getting out of the group and all that, let’s have a go!

“There are no outstanding teams in in this year – it’s wide open.

“I couldn’t pick a winner; Brazil, Spain, Germany…I don’t think any of them are where they have been in the past.

“So why can’t we do a miracle?

“It’s happened before, it can happen again.”

England go into the tournament with an inexperienced squad that is showing signs of knitting together and finding form as a unit.

And they will be hopeful of coming through Group G, where they have been drawn against Tunisia, Panama and much-fancied Belgium.

If they do make it into the knock-out stages then there is plenty of attacking potential within the group to cause any sides problems - although doubts still remain defensively at the highest level.

But there have been encouraging signs of progress in the build up to the tournament on the back of draws against Brazil and Germany.

And the performances in the two warm-up matches against Nigeria and Costa Rica have shown Southgate now has a pool of players who are heading into Russia in form.

Yet for England to make progress into the latter stages of the competition, they potentially have to overcome one of the major nations in last eight where the likelihood Brazil or Germany await.
