Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho scraps left-back search to focus on signing Romelu Lukaku back-up
New signing Diogo Dalot says he prefers to play right-back but made his Champions League debut this season as a left-back at Anfield
JOSE MOURINHO'S focus is said to be on making a striker his next signing.
The Manchester United boss was believed to want a left-back but is reportedly now happy for Ashley Young and Luke Shaw to compete for with each other to start next season.
Dalot says he prefers to play right-back but he made his Champions League debut this season as a left-back at Anfield.
Despite having made only eight first-team appearances for Porto, the Red Devils have had to shell out £19million for the 19-year-old.
But Old Trafford boss Mourinho believes it will be money well spent as he hailed the attributes of the Portuguese Under-21 international from his old club.
Mourinho said: "In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe.
"He has all the attributes a fullback needs physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality."
Dalot said: "I will give everything for this club, for this shirt.
"The chance of coming to the biggest club in the world I just couldn't turn down."
Dalot will provide competition for Antonio Valencia, 32, and probably also hasten the exit of 28-year-old Matteo Darmian.
