Liverpool fans left stranded after Kiev flights to Champions League are axed given helping hand by boxing legend Vitali Klitschko
LIVERPOOL fans who have been left grounded after three flights to Kiev for the Champions League were scrapped are being given a helping hand by a real heavyweight.
Former world boxing champ Vitali Klitschko is in discussions to try and open up space at Kiev Borispyl airport for the planes to land.
Klitschko is the mayor of Kiev having been elected in June 2014.
The company claim they've spoken to Liverpool FC, the police and Uefa in order to address the issue, but have failed.
In a statement, Worldchoice Sports said: "Dear customers, with deep regret, we have had to cancel three flights to Kiev.
"Due to so many flights going into Kiev, Kiev Borispyl has unable to allocate times for aircraft.
"We have worked extremely hard over the last 48 hours trying to resolve these issues.

"We have had them from Liverpool airport and Manchester airport and we have applied for slots in the correct manner and time frame with the authorities.
"To reiterate this problem is with Kiev."
But now Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson decided to get involved, and reached out to Kiev supremo Klitschko in a bid to get the flights back on ahead of the Reds' Champions League date with destiny against Real Madrid.
Writing on Twitter, Anderson said: "Working closely with Vitaliy Klychko to get the Kiev flights sorted - thank you for your help & support.
"Close to solution now and more details will follow soon."
What are your rights to a refund?
THERE are a number of ways you can try and get your money back - though it depends on how you paid.
Credit card: Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act means if you pay for items on a credit card worth between £100 and £30,000, your card company is also jointly liable if something goes wrong. Contact your card provider to start a claim.
Chargeback: If you paid for your flights by debit card (or by credit card and the cost is under £100) then you should be able to claim under chargeback rules. Ask you card provider - likely your bank - to do a chargeback and it will request your money back. You must do this within 120 days.
Paypal: Contact Paypal to see if you can claim via its Buyer Protection Scheme. You must do this within 180 days.
Liverpool themselves offered a statement, saying: "Liverpool Football Club is continuing to work with all of the relevant stakeholders in the UK and Ukraine in an attempt to resolve a situation which has left around 1,000 fans without flights to Kiev for the Champions League final.
"Flights chartered by Worldchoice Sports had been set to take supporters to Ukraine.
"But a dispute between the Widnes-based travel company and the aviation authorities in Kiev over the size of the aircraft has led to the trips being cancelled.
"Along with officials from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Liverpool City Council, Uefa and the authorities in Kiev, Liverpool FC has been endeavouring to resolve the issue since it first came to light and will continue to do so until all avenues have been exhausted."
