Andy Carroll to be offered route back at West Ham when Manuel Pellegrini arrives
Former England striker's Hammers career seemed over under ex-boss David Moyes but he will get fresh start in pre-season
ANDY CARROLL is to be offered a way back in at West Ham with the imminent arrival of new boss Manuel Pellegrini.
The targetman will get a fresh start after a season dogged by injury and controversy — and the chance to earn an extension to his £100,000-a-week contract, which has just 12 months to run.
Carroll’s Hammers future appeared doomed under former manager David Moyes following his temper tantrum against Manchester City when he failed to get on as a sub.
He also missed a large chunk of the season with an ankle injury and criticised West Ham fans for leaving home games early.
But a club insider said: “Andy will be assessed when the new man comes in and then a view will be taken.”
Carroll, 29, scored only three Premier League goals last season but one was a vital equaliser in a relegation scrap against Stoke and the other two sealed a win over fellow strugglers West Brom.
He also said sorry to Moyes for his behaviour during the 4-1 defeat by City last month — when he walked off in a huff after learning he would not be getting on.
Ex-City chief Pellegrini, 64, is in London finalising a three-year deal to become West Ham’s sixth boss in eight years.

The Chilean — who led the Etihad side to the title in 2014 — will be paid around £6.5million a year with a bonus if the Hammers finish in the top seven.
Goalkeeper Adrian, 31, is another hoping the departure of Moyes will boost his career at the London Stadium.
The fans’ favourite had considered quitting last season over a lack of first-team appearances due to Joe Hart’s arrival.
But Hart’s loan has not been renewed and he is back at City, leaving the way clear for Adrian to regain his spot.
The Spaniard said: “This past season for me has been a bit disappointing and frustrating at times.
“But I have one more year on my contract and we will see.
“I hope that I can continue to show I am here to help West Ham, as I enjoy it here at London Stadium and I want to keep enjoying it.
“The West Ham fans welcomed me with open arms from day one and I feel their love every time I play.”
