Moyes wanted to wait until the season was over before committing — only to be dumped last week.

It was confirmed last night that Pellegrini, 64, is leaving Hebei China Fortune after two years in China. He impressed the Hammers at the interview stage and is happy to work with a sporting director.

The calibre of manager comes as no surprise, with West Ham chairman David Sullivan promising on Thursday to appoint a manager with "a proven level of success at the highest level".
