And Bournemouth veteran Defoe, 35, and 20-year-old Liverpool ace Solanke are being targeted for loan deals.

Defoe has endured a frustrating campaign in Bournemouth - starting just 13 games due to his injury woes.

He is happy with the Cherries but Gerrard, 37, could offer his former international team-mate a chance to prolong his career north of the border.

Solanke, meanwhile, has struggled for game time behind the red-hot trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool are in the market for more attacking options, with Nabil Fekir and Manuel Lanzini linked.

And Jurgen Klopp could decide to give Solanke the regular first-team football he has been craving since coming through Chelsea's academy.
