Tottenham star Davinson Sanchez signs new six-year deal after incredible debut season

Colombia international joined Spurs from Ajax last summer and has gone on to become a key part of Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI

DAVINSON SANCHEZ has signed a new six-year deal at Tottenham.

The centre-back moved to Spurs from Ajax last summer in a deal which could reach £42million.

Fans wondered just how Sanchez would break into the team with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld regarded as the best defensive partnership in the Premier League at the time.

But an injury to the latter opened the door for Sanchez to make his mark in England.

The 21-year-old ended up making 40 appearances in all competitions, including 31 in the league.

And Mauricio Pochettino has been so impressed by Sanchez's performances that he's deemed it necessary to improve the length and terms of the youngster's contract.

Sanchez was already tied down to the North Londoners until 2023.

But he is now set to remain at Spurs man until 2024, and is sure to have pocketed some improved wages in the process.

Sanchez has been so good in his maiden season that it's left highly-rated Alderweireld sweating over his own future at the club.

The Belgian has just one year remaining on his current deal and reports claim he will be sold in order to raise funds for new signings, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea said to be interested.
