Liverpool finally learn precise fee for Naby Keita as RB Leipzig secure sixth place finish in Bundesliga

LIVERPOOL will pay around £52.75million for Naby Keita after RB Leipzig qualified for the Europa League.

The Guinean midfielder will move to Anfield on July 1 after the Reds secured his signature back in August last year.

Keita, 23, signed off in style as he played the opening 76 minutes of Leipzig’s 6-2 win over Hertha Berlin on the final day of the Bundesliga season, with the result driving Keita’s final transfer fee up.

Under the terms of the deal Liverpool struck last summer, the fee was dependent on Leipzig’s finishing position.

The fee could have swung by as much as £11m on the Bundesliga’s final day.

Had results gone Leipzig’s way, they could have finished as high as third, which would have pushed the fee up to £59m. If the German side dropped to seventh, the fee would have been £48m.

But that fee will now be £52.75m after Leipzig bagged a top six spot.

After the game, Keita spent over 10 minutes saying his goodbyes to his fans who had made the journey to the German capital.

The midfielder was also moved to tears as he left the pitch for the final time as a Leipzig player.

RB Leipzig’s Twitter account thanked Keita for his efforts during his two-year stay at the Red Bull Arena.

They tweeted: “Thanks for everything, Naby! “It’s an emotional farewell for Dominik Kaiser and Naby Keita – But they both leave on a high!”
