Mislintat is well aware of Casteels from his time working in Germany and he feels the 25-year-old would be a valuable addition to the Arsenal squad to compete with Petr Cech and David Ospina.

There is a growing sense that Arsenal must address their long term goalkeeper situation with Cech’s powers diminishing.

The former Chelsea stopper will turn 36 later this month and this season has featured some high-profile mistakes.
There are questions over Ospina’s ability to replace Cech as the Arsenal number one, making the addition of Casteels to the roster of goalkeepers an appealing one.

Casteels has been Wolfsburg's regular choice in goal for Wolfsburg in what has been a difficult season.

Having won 4-1 over FC Koln on Saturday they will enter a relegation play-off to keep their top-flight status.

He started his career at Genk, before moving to Hoffenheim in 2011. Casteels has nine Under 21 caps for Belgium.
