Everton lining up stunning £25million summer swoop for Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles

The 24-year-old centre-back has starred for the Magpies this season under Rafa Benitez

EVERTON are reportedly preparing a stunning £25million move for Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles in the summer.

The 24-year-old has been a standout player at St James' Park this season, being a mainstay at the back as the Magpies sit in tenth spot.

According to the , Sam Allardyce is ready to splash the cash on the England youth international.

They claim the Toffees are willing to fork out a similar fee to the £25m they paid Burnley last year for Michael Keane's services.

And with Everton shipping a total of 55 goals in the Premier League this season, the club are looking at bolstering their defence as they look to mount a charge for Europe next campaign.

Lascelles is currently tied down with Newcastle until 2023, having signed a six-year deal with the club in October.

But the Merseyside outfit face competition in the race to sign him, with Chelsea, Tottenham and rivals Liverpool all believed to be interested.

The Blues have been impressed with his leadership skills, as they finally look to replace former skipper John Terry.

While Rafa Benitez himself is adamant the club will retain his services beyond the summer as he continues to find his feet in the top-flight.

Lascelles has featured in 34 games in all competitions this season, netting on three occasions.
