And that included whether the team would be better working with staff at the club before Carvalhal’s arrival in December.

Leon Britton was in temporary charge before Carvalhal’s appointment, while Alan Curtis is still at the Liberty Stadium and has previously stepped in as caretaker manager after the dismissals of Garry Monk and Bob Bradley.

But Carvalhal will take charge of Sunday's clash before any decisions are made on his future, with the Swans looking increasingly like they will be in the Championship.

Swansea’s hopes of survival were dented on Tuesday evening when they lost to Southampton at home, with goal difference making it almost impossible to catch Mark Hughes’ men.

That left them sweating on Huddersfield’s clash with Chelsea which could effectively send them down.

Carvalhal, 52, turned around their fortunes when he took over from Clement earlier in the season and masterminded victories over Liverpool and Arsenal.

But they have not won since thumping West Ham 4-1 at the start of March and have now lost four on the bounce.

The ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager has a one-year extension that gets triggered if he keeps Swansea up.
