Everton striker Wayne Rooney in serious talks with MLS outfit DC United over summer move

Everton striker returned to his boyhood club earlier this season and has a year remaining on his deal

WAYNE ROONEY is in talks over a shock Stateside move to DC United.

The Everton striker, 32, has been frustrated with his role in recent months under Sam Allardyce at his boyhood club.

Rooney has a year left on his contract at Goodison Park but he is seriously weighing up a switch to the MLS.

Talks between Roo’s representatives and the Washington-based side have been stepped up in recent weeks as the US transfer window opens on July 10.

The ex-England captain, who has scored ten goals for Everton in the Prem this season but none since December, still views himself as a forward.

But Toffees boss Allardyce has been using the ex-Manchester United frontman in midfield  and last month he enraged Rooney when he  subbed him in the  Mersey derby against Liverpool, — with Rooney shown   shouting ‘Bulls***!’ as he sat on the bench.

It is believed DC United initially approached the Three Lions’ record scorer last year before he left United for Everton.

Rooney, valued at £12m, instead joined Ronald Koeman’s side but the Dutchman was axed in October and replaced by Allardyce.

Big Sam has divided fans in his short stint at Everton and recently said it would take a ‘massive’ offer to persuade them to allow Rooney to leave.

Allardyce told talkSport yesterday: “There are rumours about Wayne going elsewhere abroad,

“But at the moment he’s an Everton player and Everton fan.  I wouldn’t consider anything on the cards.”
