Sir Alex Ferguson Way road sign at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium goes missing
Former Red Devils boss still in intensive care after undergoing emergency surgery on Saturday following brain haemorrhage
THE road sign marking Sir Alex Ferguson Way outside Old Trafford appears to have gone missing this morning.
Legendary manager Fergie, 76, left the football world stunned on Saturday after he was rushed to hospital with a brain haemorrhage.
The winner of 13 Premier League titles collapsed at home and underwent emergency surgery before being placed in an induced coma.
Sir Alex is now said to be awake and talking but remains in intensive care.
A source told The Sun: “The prognosis is good and his closest friends in football are being kept abreast of any developments.”
However, a sign outside Old Trafford bearing his name mysteriously disappeared – before an explanation came later this evening.
A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: “The Sir Alex Ferguson Way sign was temporarily removed in February to accommodate the Metrolink Trafford Park Line works in the area. It has been kept in storage since.
“The sign will be replaced this week.”
The Sir Alex Ferguson Way road was opened five years ago by the man himself.

But one of the two signs which adorn the passage has gone walkies.
It could be that fans have helped themselves to it following news of Sir Alex’s health scare.
But it is more likely that is has been removed while a new tram system is being installed by builders.
