Ryan Giggs reveals shock at Sir Alex Ferguson’s plight as legendary Manchester United manager put into a coma following seizure

RYAN GIGGS has spoken of his shock at hearing Sir Alex Ferguson was in intensive care following emergency brain surgery.

Legendary Manchester United manager Ferguson, 76, was put into a coma after suffering a seizure at his Cheshire home.

Wales boss Giggs, 44, starred in all 13 of Fergie’s Premier League winning seasons after the Scot handed him a debut aged just 17.

Giggs said: “It was a huge shock as the news filtered in. But I gather that the operation has been a success.

 

“I think the next couple of days are crucial.

“I’m hoping he pulls through for a full recovery and my best wishes go out to all his family.”

Arsene Wenger also wished Ferguson a speedy recovery during his emotional final home match in charge of Arsenal.

He said: “I was with him on the pitch last week, I went to see him after the game. He looked in perfect shape, very happy.

“We hope he can recovery very quickly. He is a strong man.”

Brian Kidd, who was Ferguson’s No 2 in the 1990s and now fulfils a similar role at Manchester City, was also hit hard by the news.

He said: “There was a really sombre mood. You think Sir Alex is really indestructible, we’ve all been brought up with him.

“Obviously all of us at City, he’s in our prayers and thoughts — his wife Cathy and the kids — we wish him a happy and speedy recovery.

“We send all our love to him.”
