Asked by CBS whether rumours he turned down $100m (£74m) to play in China were true, he replied: "Yes.

"I had many offers but, yeah, one of the offers was China and I turned it down because I felt my destination was LA. My challenge was LA.

"And I will conquer LA. That's why I chose LA."

He got off to an incredible start by inspiring a comeback in the derby against LA FC from 3-0 down with two goals — including a 45-yard half volley and stoppage time winner — in a 4-3 victory.

Ibra also hit the only goal in a 1-0 win against former United team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger's Chicago Fire in April.
