He said: "I’m still thinking about it, but I’m hoping I can go to the Liverpool end and watch the game – and maybe take some of my friends and my son.

"We still follow Liverpool a lot, we watch every game and I hope they can get to the final.

"I'll be supporting Liverpool for sure."

Liverpool supporter Sean Cox, 53, is fighting for his life after being attacked by Italian fans before Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final first leg.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Lucas could be joined by around 5,000 Reds fans should he decide to buy a ticket.

An increased police presence is expected in Rome.

Lucas signed for Lazio for £5million in July.

He has slotted straight into the team, making 46 appearances this season and scoring four goals.

But Lucas admitted it was never his desire to leave Anfield.

The Brazilian said: "Liverpool is one of the greatest clubs in the world, and my intention had always been to spend the rest of my career here.

"But the less I have been able to play, the more I have realised that I need to go to another club if I want to play as much as I possibly can.

"The easiest thing for me to do would be to stay here for as long as I can even if I do not expect to play so often, but that would go against everything that I believe in as a footballer and as a competitor.

"My sadness at leaving Liverpool is accompanied by a real excitement that I will be representing one of Italy's great clubs."
