Tottenham in talks with Kyle Walker-Peters over improved long-term contract extension
England under-20 World Cup winner has forced his way into Mauricio Pochettino's first team squad this season and boss wants to tie him down to new deal in the coming weeks
TOTTENHAM are locked in talks over a new long-term contract for defender Kyle Walker-Peters.
The full-back has forced his way into the first team picture at Tottenham this season and made a major impression on manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Now claim Pochettino has told the club to work on a new improved deal for the 21-year-old to ensure he will be tied down for the foreseeable future.
Spurs started the season with just one senior right-back in the squad in the shape of Kieran Trippier following Kyle Walker's summer move to Manchester City.
And when Trippier suffered an injury on the eve of the campaign, it left Pochettino no option but to turn to rookie Walker-Peters.
Days after signing a new contract in August, Walker-Peters was suddenly thrown in for his Premier League debut in the opening match against Aston Villa.
And his performance caught the eye to show there was a player coming through the ranks at the club who could save them a fortune in the future.
Walker-Peters has gone on to feature eight times for the first team this season, having seen his chances limited by the capture of Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain.

And the belief at the club is he will be a firm fixture in Pochettino's first team plans for now on, having continued to impress with his development.

His season has capped off an impressive year for the player who was also part of the England under-20 squad that won the World Cup last year.
And though he only signed a new deal in August, Spurs want to make an improved and longer term commitment to the defender to ensure he remains part of their plans.
The national set-up have moved him up to under-21 level, and there is a belief he has the potential to enjoy a successful first team career with the club.
Aurier has struggled to make an impact in his first season with Spurs, with Trippier the undoubted first choice for Pochettino at present.
