'future is elsewhere'

Everton defender Luke Garbutt’s career at Goodison Park over as Sam Allardyce tells him to find other club

EVERTON defender Luke Garbutt has been told to find a new club by boss Sam Allardyce.

Garbutt, 24, has two years left on his Goodison Park deal but it looks as though his career on Merseyside is coming to an end.

The talented left-back has fallen out of favour with Big Sam and has not been in the first team squad for the last six games.

Allardyce said: “He’s had a difficult time here and, personally, Luke Garbutt’s future is elsewhere.

“I don’t think there is any doubt about that, based on what we’ve seen that he needs to be looking to move away from the football club and resurrect his career somewhere else because it’s not only me who hasn’t played him, it’s Ronald and, at the back end, Roberto.

“So his future is somewhere else and when a player has been languishing as long as he has...he would be out on loan if someone had asked for him and unfortunately for us, no one asked for him on loan.”

Allardyce said he would give Garbutt a chance this season and named him in the squad against Watford in February.

However, the left-back has failed to impress and was in the Under-23s side that played against Manchester United on Friday.

Cuco Martina has been favoured in his position while Leighton Baines was out injured.

And Allardyce has said the player is already assessing his options after being forced out of Goodison.

Allardyce added: “His agent, in all fairness and in speaking with Steve (Walsh), has been looking for a club for him for a period of time, even if it was on loan to re-establish himself but that hasn’t happened."
