Chelsea and Southampton fans would prefer top four or safety over FA Cup glory

SunSport poll shows only 40 per cent of Blues' supporters and 22 per cent of Saints' followers favour a Wembley triumph over league position

CHELSEA and Southampton fans thinks their clubs have bigger priorities than winning the FA Cup.

An exclusive SunSport poll has revealed as much.

The message from both sets of fans to managers Antonio Conte and Mark Hughes is clear: they favour a top four finish or Premier League safety to winning the FA Cup

Chelsea supporters, asked if they would prefer an FA Cup victory or a top finish, plumped for the latter.

Only 40 per cent backed the Wembley-winning option, with 60 per cent going for a definite Champions League spot via the Premier League.

The Blues are currently fifth in the table, five points shy of fourth-placed Tottenham with four games to go.

So the Europa League looms for Antonio Conte's team who have failed to defend their Prem title with the guts and gusto expected after last season's brilliant displays.

Relegation-threated Southampton find themselves in the relegation zone and looking highly likely to return to the Championship for the first time in six years.

SunSport's poll showed that just 22 per cent of those fans who voted would prefer an FA Cup triumph to staying in the Premier League.

That meant a whopping 78 per cent were in favour of the Saints retaining their top flight status over a one-off glory day out at Wembley against Manchester United.

Chelsea beat Southampton 3-2 at St Mary's last weekend when the home side relinguished a 2-0 lead.

Boss Conte had this message for the fans before today's FA Cup semi-final between the teams.
