Alonso denied FA charge of violent conduct after ref Mike Dean missed the nasty challenge during Chelsea's win over Saints on Saturday

MARCOS ALONSO has been banned for three matches for his horror stamp on Southampton striker Shane Long.
Chelsea defender Alonso denied an FA charge of violent conduct and will begin his suspension by missing tonight's Premier League clash with Burnley.
The Spain international raked his studs down the back of the Saints striker's calf during the first-half of the Blues' 3-2 win at St Mary's last Saturday.
But referee Mike Dean did not even book Alonso, leaving Southampton boss Mark Hughes claiming the challenge almost broke his player's leg.
And the official was slammed as "arrogant" by Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier for failing to act on the flashpoint.
FA disciplinary bosses reviewed the footage and after receiving confirmation from Dean that he had not spotted the challenge they charged the 27-year-old Spaniard retrospectively.
Alonso lodged an appeal against the charge on Wednesday afternoon and also argued that if found guilty a three-game ban would be excessive.
But despite Chelsea providing evidence to support their case, the Independent Regulatory Commission ruled his challenge was an act of violent conduct.
They also upheld the original length of suspension at three games.
He now misses the match against Burnley, this weekend's FA Cup semi-final against Southampton and the league game against Swansea.
Furious Saints boss Hughes said after his side's defeat: “It was a poor tackle, and one that could have been more severe for Shane. Thankfully he’s just about OK.
"He got raked down the calf. It’s a clear red card. There’s intent to hurt Shane in my view. It’s a dangerous tackle.
"It could have broken Shane’s leg.
"I’m disappointed the officials didn’t see it. They were all within ten to 15 metres. Maybe that’s why none of them are going to the World Cup."
